Vascular Bundle: A Green Energy Marvel

Jimmy Yung's Happystudio Unveils a Multifunctional Space Inspired by Nature

In an era where sustainability is paramount, Jimmy Yung's Happystudio presents the Vascular Bundle, a multifunctional space that marries architecture and nature. This innovative design, a winner of the prestigious A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, is a testament to the potential of green energy and sustainable design.

The Vascular Bundle, inspired by the process of photosynthesis, is a three-part structure that includes the Happy Farm, Vascular bundles, and the Happy Farm Cafe. The design is a tribute to the concept of recycling, refarming, and refreshing. Photovoltaic solar panels power the public areas, while rainwater is collected and reused for aquaponics and a plant factory. The rooftop garden offers employees a chance to cultivate crops, fostering a connection with nature and promoting a healthy, pleasant working environment.

What sets the Vascular Bundle apart is its commitment to green energy and sustainability. Sunlight and rainwater, as renewable energy sources, are integral to the design. The photovoltaic solar panels on the rooftop terrace provide electricity for each floor's public area. A rainwater collection area was pre-designed for the building's hydroponics and aquaponics systems, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to resource utilization.

The Vascular Bundle is not just a building; it's a living, breathing entity that encourages interaction with nature. The inclusion of farmland allows employees to engage in cultivation, fostering communication and camaraderie. The produce from these efforts is shared with enterprise clients and visitors, creating a joyful experience within the metropolitan building.

This project, which started in 2016 in Taiwan Taipei and finished in 2017 in Shanghai, faced several challenges. The design team had to collaborate with professionals from various fields, including architecture, landscape design, solar power system, hydroponics, and membrane structure system. Despite these challenges, the team successfully completed the design and construction, showcasing their adaptability and coordination skills.

Research indicates that proximity to nature can have numerous health benefits, including improved mental health, social engagement, and physical activity. The Vascular Bundle, through its design, brings nature landscape and interaction with nature to employees, enhancing their efficiency and creativity. It's a testament to the power of design in transforming workspaces and promoting sustainability.

In conclusion, the Vascular Bundle is a shining example of innovative, sustainable design. It's a testament to the potential of green energy, and a beacon of hope for a future where architecture and nature coexist harmoniously. As we move towards a more sustainable future, designs like the Vascular Bundle will undoubtedly lead the way.
